This year we decided to turn a 4 year daily
driver into a somewhat mean street machine. Over the past
4 years we have added the normal modifications. Last October,
however, the good stuff started to happen. We purchased
a set of Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads from
JD's Performance
along with a Cobra intake. This began what will turn out
to be a ton of changes over a six month period.
We then had to rebuild the AOD, that was
long overdue for an overhaul. And also learned an important
lesson here, with the tranny out, go ahead and put an
new converter in! Yes, we tried the old one, but are having
major problems now, so we have ordered a new converter
from PA with the hopes of having the car back on the road
soon!
After the tranny install, we pulled the
shortie headers and opted for a set of MAC long tubes,
(see exhaust install page!). We also went to a Dr. Gas
X Pipe and a set of Spintech mufflers. Although we would
lose some much needed low end torque, the reasoning would
justify itself later on! With the exhaust opened up and
flowing much better, it is only a matter of time before
the power adder(s) are up and running.
We are currently waiting on 2 Novi 1000
units from Paxton, well only 1 is for the Grey Ghost!
(The second is for a friend, good luck Mark!) The second
power adder will consist of a 100 shot of nitrous delivered
from a custom Nitrous Xpress setup that will be built
around the needs of the motor!
Hopefully we will have the Grey Ghost up
and tuned by early Spring, and hopefully be able to make
the FFW in Gainesville in June! To watch of course, no
racing the Grey Ghost!!!
Stay tuned for more pictures and info coming
from the Grey Ghost!!!
UPDATE 2/23/2005:
Well after sitting for 2 long winters the notchback is ready to go back under the knife. We have a 331 stroker motor in the works for her as she will become a nitrous queen for the summer of 2005. We have a set of heads being currently worked by Brent Frazier and the rotating assembly should be here the second week in March. We have already ordered the intake, carburetor, and distributor. So far we are looking at going with a solid roller with a C4 throwing the power to the ground. Hopefully, many months of planning will allow for a smooth transition through the build phase. Stay stuned for new updates!
